Shiraz

altHere at Ernest Hill we produce three styles of Shiraz.

From the Shareholders block comes a lighter style of Shiraz. This usually spends 5-8 months in a combination of new and one year old French and American oak.

From the William Henry block comes our traditional Hunter style. 100% Shiraz matured in brand new French and American oak, for close to 12 months to produce a heavier, longer term cellaring style.

From the Wreckers Block comes a light style of Shiraz.  This Shiraz was matured in older oak for only 6 months to make a softer, more European style red.  Hence, very fine, light tannins and subtle oak, giving the wine a lighter palate feel, thus displaying more of the rich, ripe berry and cherry flavours from the hot 2006 year.

2003

2003 'Shareholders' Shiraz SOLD OUT

Our first foray into the traditional Hunter red style. The big hot conditions of 2003 were perfect for picking big fruit driven shiraz, and this is no exception.

This wine displays intense blackcurrant and blackberry fruit flavours, balanced with that traditional Hunter earthiness. Soft tannins with a hint of smokiness and an underlying black pepper character, make this a complex and delicious wine.

This wine had twelve months in one-year old French and one-year old American oak and 300 cases were produced.

This is the first wine in our Shareholders range. If you are interested in becoming one of our Shiraz Shareholders, please contact us at our cellar door.

Cases Produced: 270 cases

Winemaker: Mark Woods

Medals: One silver and three bronze medals.

Description:  Spicy blackberry jam with a roasted nutty oak character.

Food Match:  BBQ glazed rack of ribs.

Cellaring:  3-5 years.
